Given Name: Xuān Xiāo Temple Name : Dì Shào Hào
Reign : 2527-2444 BC (83 years)
The position of Shào Hào in the list if the Five Emperors is somewhat ambiguous, he is not included in the records of the Grand Historian, but is included in all of the others at the expense of either Huáng Dì himself, Zhuān Xū, or Shùn. It is reasonable to suppose that these variations are entirely due to the efforts of the later historians to keep the list restricted to just five names. In fact, it seems most likely there were not five, but seven emperors.
His parentage and youth
He may have been the son of Huáng Dì by a woman from the Dōngyí tribe. He is said to have grown up to be a handsome young man with a lot of potential who greatly impressed his father. During his youth, as king of that tribe, he shifted its capital to Qūfù in modern Shāndōng province.
His music
Shào Hào is credited with a love of music and is said to have invented the twenty-five string gǔzhēng.
Ornithology
He may also have been an ornithologist who studied bird life and identified some species in the eastern mountains. The vulture, hawk and pigeon are species that are particularly mentioned in connection with him.
His legendary birth
